OUR STORY

Why Healing Ministry Matters in Sorsogon

Established on January 13, 1984, under the visionary leadership of the late Bishop Jesus Y. Varela, D.D., the Sister-Servants of the Divine Healer were called to make Jesus' healing presence real in the lives of His people. From Sorsogon's barangays to its hospitals and homes, the SSDH healing mission touches every corner of the diocese.

Our Purpose

Vision & Mission

Our Vision

In five years, the SSDH PDO, guided by the spirit of Jesus, the Wounded Healer, envisions a transformative Healing Ministry flourishing in the Diocese of Sorsogon.

Our Mission

We aim to provide comprehensive support through innovative and strategic programs that address physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, serving as a pivotal resource for community restoration and well-being.

SEVEN PATHWAYS OF HEALING

Our Core Advocacies

Through seven advocacy programs, SSDH PDO brings healing, hope, and transformation to the Diocese of Sorsogon.

Retirement Care
#1

Retirement Care

Honoring a life of faithful service

SSDH provides care and accompaniment to elderly and sick priests and seniors, ensuring their later years are filled with respect, compassion, and loving presence. Through Balay Padi, sisters walk alongside retired clergy, offering healthcare monitoring, pastoral presence, and the warmth of community. Looking ahead, the future Bishop Jesus Y. Varela Wellness Center will expand this ministry, providing a dedicated space where those who gave their lives in service can receive the dignified care they deserve.

Vocation Promotion & Formation
#2

Vocation Promotion & Formation

A mission sustained requires formed hearts

Through vocation and ongoing formation, SSDH prepares sisters and lay collaborators to serve with integrity, compassion, and joy. This advocacy ensures the healing mission continues for generations through carefully designed stages of formation for formands and ongoing formation for professed sisters. Partnership with Spring Rain Global provides capacity training that strengthens leadership and community empowerment, equipping each member to carry the charism of healing with depth and dedication.

Spiritual Formation
#3

Spiritual Formation

True healing begins within

Through retreats, recollections, and spiritual accompaniment, SSDH nurtures faith, restores hope, and helps individuals grow closer to God. The El-Retiro Retreat House serves approximately 3,000 students annually from elementary to college level, providing spaces for silence, prayer, and encounter with the Divine Healer. Adults seeking solace and spiritual guidance are also welcomed for spiritual renewal and introspection, making El-Retiro a sanctuary for all who carry burdens too heavy to bear alone.
